    Acrobatic Lion

It is “Me” Day. I’m on my own now until I reunite with my parents during Chinese New Year, which is about 2 weeks from now. Can’t wait!

Went to have my hair cut today and got to watch the acrobatic lion dance performance at One Utama which started at 4pm. By 3pm, I was already waiting there, to see the lions. I really don’t know why I like them so much. Only know it makes me happy when I see one. One of the reason why I like to spend Chinese New Year in Sandakan so much is that it is filled with lion dance troupes. Every 1st, 2nd, 3rd day of Chinese New Year, I’ll be waiting on the bed, waiting for the sound of the drums, like how children wait for Santa Claus to come on Christmas Day. No kidding. I’m really excited to the max. And I think as I age, the more excited I get. They usually come very early on the 1st day, around 8am.

Anyway, because it was only 3pm and there is another hour to go before the performance starts, I went walking around and when I got back half an hour before the performance started, the crowd was already there, booking a spot for themselves. See? At least I’m not the only one who’s so obssessed with lions. But then I was late because I couldn’t find an empty slot to squeeze in. I stood behind a couple and prayed hard they would be impatient to wait till 4pm and will leave and I would have a place to stand. Guess what? They really left. Me so happy only. Quickly hop into that empty space like a Bunny who just found her orangey carrot.

After that, two budak kecik squeeze in front of me so I have to really stand still because there’s one budak besar (mother of budak kecik) standing behind me who really did make a close contact that she was literally leaning against my back lah. Next to me stood two pair of couples, to my left and right, so really cannot move at all. Taking my camera from my bag also did require some stunt because I was holding a shopping bag and cannot simply swing lah. Want to turn around to see who’s the budak besar also cannot because if I do so, I’ll be kissing her already.

If you want to see more pictures, click on the picture above to be redirected to another link. Not that the pictures are pretty since I was standing a level above it and taking from afar. But boleh lah.

By 11am, cars were already queueing up to enter the car park in One Utama. And when you enter the shopping centre, it’s like everything’s free. No need money to buy. I also want to pokkai already. This month is going to be the month I spend a lot of money. It started with buying an air ticket to fly home. A return ticket, KL – Sandakan, KL, if you’re flying MAS is now RM1500. It used to be only RM800. And because I’m not that rich to fork out RM1500, I’m flying AirAsia and because it’s the festive season and because I book only two months ago, it costs around RM800++ (return ticket), still cheaper than MAS lah.

But then, I still feel like going shopping sebab setahun hanya sekali saya shop massive punya.

    Ok, sleep.

  • Meet My New Friend

    Patch

The moment I spotted him, it put a big, wide, stupid grin on my face. Grace, are you sure you want to get another toy? Hmm…no no. So, I walked out of the shop but cannot stop thinking about it. Macam dah jatuh cinta ni. How?

Walked back to the shop. Stupid grin came back to my face. Have to buy. Cannot sleep if I don’t buy. In fact, cannot forgive myself if I don’t buy.

    His name is Patch.

  • 5 Things U Might Not Noe About Me

    Got tagged by Pelf…again!

    1. During a camp, I went out to the playground and climbed onto the seesaw. Because I had no one to play with me at that time, I played alone. When you play alone, this is how you do it. You get on the side of the seesaw that’s touching the ground, push your legs up from the ground with all your might. Fly up to the air and let your own weight get you back to the real world. One advice is that when the seesaw comes flying down, you shouldn’t cross your legs and wrap it under the seesaw. Because it HURTS so much! I went to bathe that evening without telling any of the camp officers that I was injured. Nobody knows about it, not even my parents. My leg somehow healed.

    2. Perhaps the only sports that I was good at was the “sack race” (Lari Dalam Guni).

    3. I love driving on a long, quiet road, especially during the wee hours of the morning of a public holiday.

    4. I like to swim but I’m pool-shy.

    5. I need to cry once in a while. It’s a form of detoxification even though sometimes there isn’t really something sad to cry about. But I think you know this already lah!

I’m tagging TienSoon (Because he tagged me and as of today, still have not completed the homework he tagged me) and Coffeeholic

  • Terlalu Istimewa

Listened to Adibah Noor, who rendered the song “Terlalu Istimewa” in such lovely tone during TV3’s Anugerah Juara Lagu Ke-21, which was telecast live last night. Pappy was flipping channel and I got to catch the last bit where Adibah was presented with best song of the year award.

If you don’t know her, and if you’ve watched Sepet. She’s Kak Yam, Orked’s funny maid.

“Grace, what time are you going to work tomorrow?”

    “Same time.”

    “You wake me up, okay?”

    “Okay.”

When I woke up, I saw Pappy lying on the sofa, sleeping, with the television turned on. I guess he really didn’t want to miss sending me off to work this morning because he’ll be flying back to Sandakan today.

As I was about to walk out of the door, Pappy hugged me and said, “Take care.”

As I was about to drive away, I looked up to the kitchen windows, hoping to get a glimpse of Pappy. I don’t expect him to be by the window because he usually doesn’t stand there like how Mummy would if she’s here. But surprisingly though, he was there. I waved goodbye and he waved in return.

I love my dad so much, he makes me cry.

  • The Farewell Dinner

Two nights ago. I so didn’t want to attend the dinner of Pappy’s friend. BUT I have no choice. My request to not show my face was declined by Daddy Dearest.

I was pretty quiet all throughout dinner because I didn’t have the right mood to be jolly, talkative and all.

“I want to talk to your daughter.”

Pappy’s friend came and sat next to me.

“Are you still working with the shipping company?”

    “No, I’ve quit the job.”

“Then where are you working now?”

    “In Cyberjaya.”

    “Do they pay you higher?”

    “Yes, slightly higher.”

“Why did you quit the job? I was talking to a friend and I told him about the company you are working for. And it’s actually a better company to work for than the one I brought you for interview. Why did you quit the job?”

    “I didn’t like the job.”

“Is this company you are currently working for bigger than the previous one?”

“Nope.” Actually my previous company was such a giant.

“Then it’s not an international company. If you work for a local company, you won’t get international exposure.”

I just sat and listened to the rest because I get very annoyed listening to all these now.

In the first place, when I worked for that company, this uncle was criticising my decision, saying that I should have worked for the company in which he tried to placed me in. He criticised me in front of all his friends, all the uncles and it wasn’t nice. Some elderly people like to do that sometimes and I don’t know what the heck for. I mean, it’s MY job. MY interest. MY life. And the most important of all, I’m HAPPY now.

Why doesn’t he ask me that question? If I’m happy?

The reason why I didn’t want to go for the dinner was because I can just “smell” the question coming a few days before the dinner. He asks me this question every single time I meet him.

  • The Wedding Dinner

“I wonder if your daughter welcomes you here. Everywhere you go also she has to drive you. And it’s Saturday Night Fever for her tonight.”

“Grace, ask your father to go back lah!”

    – Pappy’s friend

    ***

    “Grace, when is your wedding?”

“Uncle, I’ve got a long way to go.”

“When you get married, I’ll be flying to Sandakan to attend your wedding. In life, we’ve got to make promises and I’ll attend your wedding. Please make sure I’m in the invitation list.”

    – The bride’s father.

    ***

“Yes yes. When you get married, I want to attend also. I want to see how it’s like.”

    – The auntie sitting next to me.
